A woman said in a now-viral video that she made the bridesmaid dresses for her own wedding, and admitted that they were “so bad.”
The video was posted to TikTok on January 14 by Samantha VanMeter Foreman. Already, the post has received more than 1.2 million views and over 86,000 likes.
The video is set to a popular TikTok sound often used in “lip-dub skits by people reminiscing about their poor life choices,” explained Know Your Meme. The sound comes from a season of America’s Next Top Modelin which the show’s host, Tyra Banks, says: “It is so bad, I want to give you a zero, but that’s not possible, so I give you a one.”
Typically, those using the sound reveal an embarrassing photo of themselves by the end of the video. For example, Joe Jonas shared a photo of himself “high at Coachella.” Meanwhile, Ashley Tisdale shared a picture of the outfit she wore to the Ice Princess premiered in 2005.
Foreman, on the other hand, shared a photo of one of her bridesmaids.
“That time I made my bridesmaid dresses and legit made these girls wear these in my wedding!” read the video’s text overlay.
When Foreman steps out of frame, viewers are left with a picture of the bridesmaid wearing Forman’s DIY dress, which is pink and orange in color and brimming with tulle.
In a follow-up video, Foreman said that she made the dresses because she had trouble finding a dress that fit each of her bridesmaids “the right way.”
According to The Knot, however, brides in a similar situation should consider allowing their bridesmaids to choose their own dresses.
“If your bridesmaids have an array of different body types and you’re having trouble finding one dress that will work for all of them, consider picking a color or range of colors and allowing them to choose their own dresses,” The Knot said.
Foreman’s commenters were stunned by her DIY dresses.
“Respectfully this was worse than I expected,” said Katee Edwards.
“I hope you wrote them all an apology letter,” wrote SnarahB.
“There was quite literally nothing you could have said or done to prepare me for this, ma’am. Thank you for sharing,” commented Desiree’ Michelle.
Emzieees added: “I GASPED.”
“But do you even like your friends??” asked one TikToker.
“Those girls were true friends to you,” expressed Nutmegnificent.
Robin Barson, agreed, adding: “Girl, that’s how you know your friends are ride or die for you.”
