Paul is on the move again.
This time he is said to have headed to Boston. After a deal with the Detroit Pistons was canceled last week due to a physical failure, the center of the Denver Nuggets are now heading to the Boston Celtics in a three-way deal that includes the San Antonio Spurs, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
The Nuggets also sends goalkeeper PJ Dozier to Boston and will receive Tottenham goalkeeper Brian Forbes in return. The Celtics will send forward Juancho Hernangomez to San Antonio. Tottenham will too Denver received a second-round pick in the 2028 draft.
Paul is due to have foot surgery
News of the deal arrives hours after Athletic’s Shams El Shaarania announced that Paul is due to undergo foot surgery. This will sideline him for 8-12 weeks. The surgery sheds light on why the pistons invalidated the previous trade. The Celtics seem content to trade for Bol knowing he won’t be available immediately.
Paul, the son of former 7-7 basketball player Manut Paul, joined the Nuggets as a top-ranked player in the second round of Oregon in 2019. Positioning 7-2, Paul highlighted a versatile game with his ball-handling skills and 3-point range, but They never broke into Nuggets coach Michael Malone’s rotation.
Upgrade shooting for nuggets
Dozier, Hernangomez and Forbes have seen limited activity as reserve players on their previous teams. Forbes is the most productive of the three this season, averaging 9.1 points, 1.6 rebounds and one assist while shooting 41.7% from a 3-point range in 16.9 minutes per game during his time with Spurs. He’s a promotion as a shooting leader and scorer over Dozier, who averaged 5.4 points and 31.3% from a 3-point range with the Nuggets and will miss the rest of the season due to an AFC Champions League rupture. It will offer an exemption from the salary cap to Celtics as a suspended free agent.
